Ceceily: I came to SPEA because when you live in Indianapolis it’s everywhere. With me working in government and wanting to stay in government I decided SPEA was the next logical step. Because of scholarship support I’m able to go through my graduate program without the financial worry or burden. I also feel that my community is really supporting me and looking forward to my role as a professional here in Indianapolis.

Dan: Being so close to a major metropolitan area, the thirteenth-largest city in the United States, was a major plus for me when I was choosing schools. I came to SPEA because they have a strong record of preparing people to go out into their communities and make a difference, teaching you the skills to solve complex problems and work with people around you to come to a good solution. I still feel that support through the SPEA Alumni Association to this day.

Angela: I received my MPA in Nonprofit Management from SPEA at IUPUI. In my current role I analyze labor market data to ensure that we understand what employers in Marion County need. SPEA helped me get here by teaching me management skills and by introducing me to a network of powerbrokers here in the city. I choose SPEA because I want to be a leader who makes a difference in the community.

Chief Riggs: When you think of IMPD there are many issues we have to deal with. Having an organization like SPEA helps us understand the issues we’re facing and helps us be more efficient and effective as we develop solutions for those issues.

Brian: The Cultural Trail was actually an idea that came to me in 2001. The Cultural Trail was all about making cultural districts possible and more vital. SPEA at IU and IUPUI are the strongest programs in their field in the country. There has been a number of Indianapolis Cultural Trail Capstone projects over the years. And we’ve gotten a lot of value out of that relationship. And to have that asset along the Cultural Trail, in our backyard so to speak, is unbelievable.
